The Gatineau Valley Historical Society, in partnership with Marshall-Maruska Aerial Images unveiled an interactive web presentation composed of 40 then-and-now aerial images of the lower Gatineau River.
Visitors to the website are able to call up 20 pairs of aerial images that dramatically illustrate how the construction of the Chelsea Dam in 1926–27 changed the shoreline of the Gatineau River.
View the before and after photos and note how the dams eliminated almost all of the rapids in the lower Gatineau River.
Ottawa Riverkeeper is proud to have Duncan Marshall of Marshall-Maruska Aerial Images on our team of Riverwatchers. Duncan flies over the river regularly, has a solid understanding of river dynamics and takes professional and beautifully composed photographs from the air. Thank you Duncan!
