Ottawa Riverkeeper has met and engaged with Samonix regarding their proposed land-based salmon farm project in the Pontiac region. We appreciate the proactive approach by Samonix in reaching out to ensure the project aligns with environmental standards and safeguards our rivers and wildlife.

Ottawa Riverkeeper has released a new, comprehensive Watershed Report Card for the Ottawa River. The results tell a story of a watershed under threat from recent human activity. Development, land use, and climate change are reshaping Canada’s capital river system.

As water flows across the land of our watershed, and through the streams and tributaries of the river, it acts differently depending on how humans use the land. Creating detailed maps of how land use in our region changes over time can be an invaluable tool in understanding the health of our watershed.

Québec has a new Water Strategy to guide its actions as it protects and promotes rivers, lakes and other aquatic environments. We will continue to work with stakeholders on both sides of the Ottawa River to ensure the health and sustainable development of this wonderful resource we share.
