As the summer comes into full swing, so does Ottawa Riverkeeper’s recreational water quality monitoring program. This program involves monitoring E. Coli levels in water at local beaches, in order to promote public safety and warn of swimming advisories when applicable.

Each day for a whole weekend, our Youth Water Leaders met on the river to learn from amazing guides about the adventure that lies right in our backyard.

The Youth Water Leaders volunteered as paddlers for a performance of Deluge, a rock concert on rising seas, an amazing intersection between climate activism, powerful music, and a story that our world needs to hear.

Audrey Bureau, Municipal Councillor for Aylmer, and Ottawa Riverkeeper’s Community Outreach Coordinator, Alejandro Prescott-Cornejo, met at parc des Cèdres to film a video to share the excellent news.

This winter you may find yourself out on the river for a walk, skate or ski, or even zipping around on a snowmobile. While these are all awesome ways to enjoy the river during the winter, it’s of the utmost importance to remember that accessing river ice is never 100% safe.
