Phosphorus is essential for life, but too much in our waterways can have harmful consequences. By analyzing phosphorus concentrations and identifying high-impact areas, we can take targeted action to reduce pollution and protect both the Ottawa River and the St. Lawrence.

Ottawa Riverkeeper is sharing information, facts, and tips about road salt during the week of January 30th, as part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness of the negative impacts that overusing road salt has on freshwater ecosystems.

Having its own already established road salt monitoring system, Ottawa Riverkeeper is well-placed to support ABV des 7 in sampling different creeks to determine their chloride concentrations.

Ottawa Riverkeeper has organized shoreline naturalization projects to assist local communities in protecting their waterways. In the Spring of 2018, Ottawa Riverkeeper, Watersheds Canada, and 25 volunteers, including a number of highschool students, revegetated a site vulnerable to erosion at Arnprior, along the Ottawa River.
