You can help save the turtles!

Ottawa Riverkeeper is partnering with the Petrie Island Turtle Project, Friends of Petrie Island, and the Canadian Wildlife Federation to protect turtle eggs at Petrie Island. They are incubated at Ottawa Riverkeeper’s Science Lab at the NCC River House and released back to Petrie Island when they hatch.

If left unprotected, the eggs would only have a 5% chance of hatching at Petrie Island because of predation. But because of this partnership, we expect nearly 100% of the turtles to hatch and be released!

All eight species of turtles in the Ottawa River watershed are at risk of disappearing, including the three species being incubated as part of this project.

Your support gives these turtle eggs a fighting chance AND helps these specific turtle eggs be ambassadors for their species through Ottawa Riverkeeper’s education programs.
