Current Conversations: Underwater Treasures in Our Midst – July 16th, 2025

A dive into the secret depths of the Ottawa River, and the living treasures found there! Join in on Wednesday, July 16th from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Join us for Current Conversations, a summer speaker series hosted in Ottawa Riverkeeper’s Learning Lab at the NCC River House, every other Wednesday evening. Each event will feature interesting speakers or presenters, refreshments, and a chance to learn, discuss, and ask questions about the river.

World-renowned cave diver, filmmaker, and Honorary Riverkeeper Jill Heinerth and esteemed research scientists Dr. Katriina Ilves and Dr. Andre Martel with the Canadian Museum of Nature will share their expertise on the extraordinary life of freshwater mussels. Learn about their role in the ecosystem, their connection to fish, and their presence in Canada’s largest underwater cave system near Westmeath.
