American White Waterlily
Scientific Name: Nymphaea odorata
You might recognize this waterlily as it is a native species in Canada and is common throughout the watershed. They can most often be seen in July and August. The leaves are water-repellant and float on top of the water. They produce beautiful flowers, but please do not pick them! They are crucial for the plant to reproduce. Not only do these plants look nice, but their stems also provide an important food source for animals such as Muskrats.
