Community Canoe Launch – July 1st, 2025

Join us on July 1st at the NCC River House for a community canoe launch to put the birch bark canoe in the water!

Over the course of 2023 and 2024, a group of youth worked together to build a traditional birch bark canoe, guided by Pinock Smith, a knowledge holder from Kitigan Zibi. Built with materials from the watershed, the canoe serves as a great metaphor for the state of our watershed. A birch bark canoe is only possible thanks to a healthy ecosystem, and this canoe almost didn’t happen due to the conditions of the watershed’s forests.

On July 1st, you’re invited to witness the launch of this canoe as part of a free public event hosted by Ottawa Riverkeeper and A7G – Assembly of Seven Generations. All are welcome.
